About Holidays to Switzerland
Hi, I’m Carolyn Schönafinger, founder and Swiss travel expert at Holidays to Switzerland! I first visited Switzerland more than 30 years ago and it was love at first sight!
After my first trip to Switzerland, my husband and I enjoyed numerous Swiss family holidays with our two boys but I’ve also travelled solo and on a multi-generational trip with my parents, my husband and our boys.
Now that our boys have ‘left the nest’, my husband and I visit Switzerland each year to indulge our love of this beautiful country.
On each trip we visit new places and old favourites, try new experiences, eat Swiss chocolate and cheese, and immerse ourselves in the gorgeous scenery that’s around every corner in Switzerland. We can never get enough!
I created this website and the Holidays to Switzerland podcast to share all the tips I’ve acquired on my many visits to Switzerland to help you plan your own dream Swiss vacation.
MY SWISS TRAVEL EXPERTISE
I worked as a travel consultant for over ten years, the last five of those specialising in European trip planning. During this time I was invited by Switzerland Tourism to attend their week-long Travel Mart in Zurich in May 2012.
Switzerland has always been my number one love and I return as often as I can but to keep my knowledge as up to date as possible, I have also completed the Switzerland Travel Academy course and received certification as a Switzerland Travel Expert.
Since 2021, I’ve been certified as a Swiss Travel System Excellence Expert after completing the annual online training programs.
On my many trips to Switzerland I’ve visited a vast majority of the country – travelling by both car and train (and on one occasion, on a coach tour) – to explore both the popular and less well-known destinations for myself.

I’m passionate about encouraging everyone to experience the delights of a Swiss vacation.
