Episode 29: Trip Report - A Honeymoon in Switzerland

Interview with Margo and Eric Fox

Margo and Eric are both members of the Switzerland Travel Planning Facebook group from Cleveland, Ohio, who recently returned from their honeymoon in Switzerland after it was delayed for twelve months due to the pandemic.

Before their trip, they were regular contributors to the group – asking for information and advice to help them decide on the perfect itinerary for their honeymoon.

Margo and Eric generously shared their tips and the highlights of their trip with the Facebook group members both during their travels and on their return home, and they are joining me in this episode to tell us all about their honeymoon in Switzerland.

Zurich – 1 night
Lugano – 3 nights

>> Zurich – Margo and Eric flew into Zurich from the US and spent their first night at the B2 Boutique Hotel and Spa. This was a great way to unwind and re-energise themselves before starting their travels around Switzerland.

>> Lugano – After taking a train to Lugano in the Italian-speaking region of Ticino, Margo and Eric soaked up the Mediterranean ambiance of the city. They stayed at an Airbnb and enjoyed mountain excursions to Monte Bre and Monte San Salvatore and a visit to the lakeside village of Gandria. They also booked a private photo shoot which included a walking tour of Lugano, and this was one of the highlight’s of their visit.

>> Grindelwald – The next stop was Grindelwald in the Bernese Oberland where the honeymooners spent four nights at Hotel Spinne. As well as excursions to Mt. First (where they enjoyed the Cliff Walk and riding mountain carts down the mountain) and Jungfraujoch, they also visited Lauterbrunnen and Interlaken. Highlights of Interlaken included kayaking on Lake Brienz and taking a chocolate-making workshop at Funky Chocolate Club. They highly recommend C und M restaurant in Grindelwald where they enjoyed a delicious dinner.

>> Lucerne – Margo and Eric’s final destination was Lucerne in central Switzerland. They splurged on a suite with a balcony at Hotel Des Balances and spent their time strolling leisurely around the city, browsing at a gallery, visiting the city’s fortified walls, shopping, and swimming in a pool by the lake. They also visited Chateau Gutsch, an historic hotel overlooking the city, and had a delicious meal at Pastarazzi, where you can make your own pasta.

Throughout their trip, Margo and Eric traveled by train, having pre-purchased the Swiss Travel Pass which includes all public transportation in Switzerland, entry to over 500 museums, and discounts off most mountain railways, cable cars and funiculars.
