Episode 65: 10 Top experiences to enjoy in Switzerland
In this episode I’m joined by Nick Taylor who is a member of my Switzerland Travel Planning group on Facebook. Nick and his wife have been frequent visitors to Switzerland since 1991 and they have enjoyed many wonderful experiences in all parts of the country.
Although he admitted it was a tough choice, Nick has agreed to share his top 10 Swiss experiences with us.

Nick’s top 10 Swiss experiences
Below are Nick’s favourite experiences in Switzerland ranked from number 10 to number 1.
#10. Kandersteg to Leukerbad hike, via the Shwarenbach Berghostel, Gemmipass and Daubensee cable car, returning by bus and train.
#9. Rheinfall, Smilestones and return to Schaffhausen for a restaurant dinner.
#8. Locarno to Camedo via the Centovalli Railway, hike to the next village and return by train again, then dinner in Ascona by the lake.
#7. Skiing Zermatt. Nick skied in winter but it’s possible to ski year round. He also loves the Gornergrat Railway and the cable car to Klein Matterhorn which offers spectacular views of the Matterhorn.
#6. Arriving in Lauterbrunnen, going up to Mürren via Grutschalp and then taking the Bergbahn Lauterbrunnen-Mürren. There are many hiking options from Mürren including to the Schilthorn, Allmendhubel and Gimmelwald.
#5. Appenzell to Wasserauen via the Appenzeller Bahn, cable car up to Ebenalp, hike to the Berggasthaus Äscher Wildkirchli, then down to Seealpsee (optional lake swim) and back to Wasserauen.
#4. Train to Brienz and journey by steam train to the summit of the Brienzer Rothorn and back. Boat across the lake to the Giessbach Hotel funicular, afternoon tea at the hotel and look at the falls. Walk back to Iseltwald and take the boat back to Interlaken.
#3. The Bernina Express with lunch in Tirano and/or walk from Ospizio Bernina around Lago Bianco to Alp Grüm.
#2. Luzern. Paddle steamship sail to Vitznau and take the Rigi Bahn up to the summit. Option to stay in hotel up there and/or hike around. Take cable car down to Weggis and catch boat back to Luzern. Option of fantastic Swiss Transport Museum.
#1. Cable car up from Wengen to Männlichen, Royal and Panorama hikes to Kleine Scheidegg, with Rösti at the station, then walk down to Wengen and sit with a glass of wine on a hotel balcony looking at the mountain panorama.
