Hotel Sorell Zurichberg | Review
As Switzerland’s largest city, Zurich is home to a huge number of hotels. Whilst many visitors like to stay in the heart of the bustling city, I chose to stay just fifteen minutes from the centre in the quiet and scenic location of Fluntern.
My accommodation of choice was Hotel Sorell Zurichberg, a 4* design hotel with picturesque views and tranquil surroundings.
In this review I share the details of the room my husband and I stayed in, tell you more about the hotel’s location and how to get there, and give you useful information about the dining and leisure facilities at the Sorell Hotel Zurichberg.

About Sorell Hotel Zurichberg
Sorell Zurichberg is part of the Sorell Hotel chain which comprises 15 properties in Switzerland.
Zurich is home to eight different Sorell hotels, most of which are located close to the city centre but as someone who likes to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city at night, the Zurichberg hotel was my destination of choice.
The hotel is situated on a hill overlooking the city and Lake Zurich and is also surrounded by open parkland on both sides and a forested area to the rear. It is also close to Zurich Zoo.
The hotel’s attractive main building dates back to the 1900s, and combined with the stunning views from the front of the building, you can see why this has been a popular destination for both Zurich locals and visitors for a century.

Our Room
We stayed in a Standard Double Room which had a lake view and was perfect for the two of us for two nights.
The room was a good size and included a queen size bed, small table and chairs, a large desk, and a balcony (also with table and chairs).
The views over the terrace restaurant and Lake Zurich – especially watching the sunset – were wonderful.
The room also featured a TV, free WiFi, a Nespresso coffee machine with capsules, a safe and a modern bathroom with a bathtub.
A selection of fresh fruit and chocolates awaited us on arrival and the hotel also offers a pillow menu.
The room wasn’t air conditioned but a large fan was provided.

The beauty of staying at Sorell Hotel Zurichberg is the tranquility. It’s the perfect place to base yourself for a few days of sightseeing in and around Zurich.
You can then retreat to the hotel’s garden and terrace to unwind and enjoy the views.

Guests arriving by car have access to an undercover car park and the hotel’s reception is open 24 hours.
Food and Beverages
Without a doubt, one of the highlights of our stay at Hotel Sorell Zurichberg was the breakfast buffet which is included in the room rate for all guests.
The cold buffet selection includes fresh fruit, cereals (including a delicious Bircher muesli), yoghurts, breads, pastries, muffins, cheese and cold meats. Eggs can be cooked on request.
All the jams are home made and herbs are grown in the hotel’s herb garden.
Guests have the option of dining indoors or on the terrace.
The Zurichberg Restaurant and Panorama Terrace is open throughout the day, serving lunch, afternoon snacks and dinner.
Dinner is also available at the and we enjoyed a superb meal here on our final night. A wide range of dishes are offered including lake fish and the popular Zurich sliced veal, as the chef likes to place a particular emphasis on regional products.
The restaurant is particularly popular for dinner on weekends when the local’s visit, so booking ahead is recommended.
Bar Zürichberg is open daily and serves light meals as well as drinks.
Over the winter months (end of October to mid-February), guests can enjoy a delicious fondue in the Chalet Zuriberg, located in a hut on the garden terrace.

How to get there by car and public transport
From Zurich Airport you can reach the hotel by taxi or Uber in around 25 minutes. If you’d prefer to travel via the city, this article has details on all the transport options.
To travel from central Zurich, take a number 6 tram from Zurich main station to the final stop (direction Zurich Zoo). The hotel is just 100 metres from the tram stop.
I recommend purchasing a Zurich Card which includes all public transport in the city.
If you are arriving by private car, the hotel’s address is Orellistrasse 21, 8044 Zürich. Undercover car parking is available for guests.
Our Verdict
I really enjoyed our stay at Sorell Hotel Zuerichberg. To me, nothing beats a room with a view and our balcony was the perfect spot to enjoy the panorama of Lake Zurich and the Swiss Alps which spread out before us.
The staff were extremely friendly and helpful and the food was excellent.
Although the hotel is 15 minutes from downtown Zurich, you are still close enough to the city centre, with regular public transport services, for it not to be an inconvenience.
If you are finding it hard to choose between the eight Sorell Zurich hotels, I don’t think you’ll be disappointed with a stay at the Sorell Zurichberg hotel.
