The Jungfrau Region is one of Switzerland’s most popular destinations with extraordinary beauty and it's home to two of the most famous mountains – Jungfraujoch and Schilthorn. But if you only have limited time in the area, which is best, Jungfraujoch or Schilthorn?
First option is by train on the Jungfraubahn via Lauterbrunnen or Grindelwald. The second option is by Eiger Express cable car and Jungfraubahn from Grindelwald.
One of the highlights is to view the incredible Aletsch Glacier from the Sphinx Observatory. Another popular place is the Ice Palace which features ice carvings. There’s also the Alpine Sensation, a 250 metre long tunnel showcasing the history of the Jungfrau railway.
I recommend you spend at least three hours at the top plus your travel time. Try to put aside the best part of a day for your visit so that you can experience all the activities and exhibitions, without being rushed.
The first option is by cable car from Stechelberg. The second way you can reach Schilthorn is by train and cable car from Lauterbrunnen.
For many, the main attraction is, the spectacular view from the Observation Deck. Skyline Walk is an observation deck with a see-through floor which protrudes out over the vertical abyss. There are also plenty James Bond inspired attractions here.
I recommend you allow at least two hours to visit the summit and Birg stations, plus your travel time. If you would also like to dine in the 360 Degree Restaurant, have a look around Mürren or do a hike, you’ll need to allow longer.
They are both fantastic excursions – the best one to visit depends on your interests, the time you have available and your budget.
