The 6 mountain excursions mentioned in this episode

>> Mt. Pilatus is probably the most famous, and for good reason. It’s dramatic, the views are spectacular, and (during summer) you can take the steepest cogwheel railway in the world to the summit. It’s brilliant for families and those who love epic views. Read more about Mt. Pilatus.

>> Mt. Rigi is another classic. It’s often called the “Queen of the Mountains,” and there’s something wonderfully elegant about it. The views across the lake and towards the Alps are breathtaking, and you can reach it easily by cable car or cog railway. It’s a great choice if you want easy hikes and love nature. >> Mt. Titlis is further afield but absolutely worth considering if you’re willing to spend more time travelling. It’s higher than all of the others and is reached by the world’s first rotating cable car. Titlis is perfect if you want guaranteed snow and would love to try some snow activities. Read more about Mt. Titlis.

>> Mt. Stanserhorn is the quieter choice, and one I’d recommend if you prefer something a little less crowded. It has excellent panoramic views and is reached by a historic funicular and the world’s first open-air cable car. Stanserhorn is one of the few mountains that can be accessed in the evening – dining on the summit whilst watching the sun set is a truly memorable experience. Read more about Mt. Stanserhorn.

>> Stoos is a bit more off the radar for many visitors – I’m yet to visit Stoos but it’s definitely on my list! It’s smaller and more intimate, with a beautiful ridge hike and views across the Swiss Alps. A highlight for many who visit Stoos is the ride on the world’s steepest funicular to reach the car-free mountain village.

>> Brienzer Rothorn which is the furthest of the six from Lucerne. Most people know it for the steam train ride from Brienz in the Bernese Oberland but it can also be reached by cable car from Sörenberg (on the Lucerne side of the mountain), which is something that not many tourists know.
